06.13.09 Katie Carr, 2nd DAN, traveled to Louisville, KY for the American Karate Association Grand Nationals and Bluegrass Nationals Karate Tournament! A NASKA 5A rated event, this tournament is one of the largest and attracts some of the very best competitors from across the country! Katie Carr competed in a division featuring 14 Black Belts representing the best of the best, with many of them NASKA seeded in the tournament. While Katie did not place in Traditional Forms competition, she fought her way through the brackets in Fighting Competition to finish in 3rd Place! Mr. John Sharkey, Jr - American Karate Association President, took some time out during the tournament to check on Katie and was kind enough to get his picture taken with her.

04.25.09 Katie Carr takes 1st Place in Forms and 3rd Place in Fighting at the ABKA Championships. Competing at the American Bushido-Kai Karate Association Championships is Katie Carr, 2nd DAN and her fellow UGKA Black Belt Competitors - the Legendary Nancie "Tiny" Longacre, 7th DAN and Greg Partridge, 3rd DAN.

Katie Carr, 2nd DAN, is pictured with her students from her school in Mannford, Oklahoma, the Mannford Institute of Karate, as well as her students from her instructing for Mr. Soliday at the Sapulpa Institute of Karate in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Katie insures her students are warmed up, stretched, and ready for their competitions.

04.09.09 Katie Carr, 2nd DAN, pictured with Grandmaster Howard Fields upon the ceremony hosted by Grandmaster Gilkey and Grandmaster Soliday to formally recognize Mr. Fields as 10th DAN, at the Oklahoma Nationals Pearl of the Plains Karate Tournament in Tulsa, OK. Katie was proud to have the chance to visit with one of Oklahoma Karate's original pioneers and someone who brought so much to martial arts for decades.

Along with two others, Katie Carr, 2nd DAN, was also given a special honor by Grandmaster Gilkey. Mr. Gilkey highlighted the accomplishments of Katie as an Oklahoma state champion, as an American Karate Association national champion, her years as a martial artist, and her opening her own karate school last year when she was only 15, the Mannford Institute of Karate. Mr. Gilkey specifically related seeing Katie start out in martial arts and her very first tournament, which was one of his tournaments, as a young white belt competitor. He also made specific mention of watching Katie over the years and how she has incorporated martial arts into her life.

Katie Carr is also pictured with Sensei Jack Groves, who presides over the AKA Southern Region, and Mr. David Fishinghawk, 10th DAN, from Locust Grove, Oklahoma who presented Katie's award.

03.21.09 Katie Carr, 2nd DAN, pictured with Grandmaster Earl Gilkey, 10th DAN, at the AKA's American Open Karate Tournament in Locust Grove, OK. Grandmaster Gilkey has been both a strong supporter of Katie in her development over the years.

02.27.09 Katie Carr, 2nd DAN, is inducted into the Midwest Martial Arts Hall of Fame! Katie Carr, 2nd DAN, pictured with Midwest Martial Arts Association President David Frazier after Katie was honored as an inductee in the MMASC Hall of Fame! In addition, Katie was named the 2008 Midwest Martial Arts Fighting Champion for the 2008 tournament season.

01.17.09 Katie Carr's Mannford Institute of Karate - January 2009 class picture. Katie started the Mannford Institute of Karate in July 2008 at the age of 15, and six months later it has become a strong member school within the United Goju Karate Association (www.ugka.org). Katie is featured here with her students.

11.08.08 At the 2008 DragonFest Karate Tournament, Katie was very honored to be asked to judge numerous divisions include the Junior Black Belt extreme forms, musicals, and later in the tournament she was asked to judge some of the Grand Champion divisions.

10.18.08 At the 18th Annual Shotokan Tiger's Weapons of the Night Karate Tournament in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma - Ms. Katie Carr, 2nd DAN with her students competing in their first karate tournament event! In the second pic, Katie Carr, 2nd DAN - Sensei of the Mannford Institute of Karate, along with Mr. Scott Collins, 7th DAN - Sensei of the Sand Springs Institute of Karate both brought students to compete in this year's Weapons of the Night Tournament!

09.27.08 Shihan Keith Bly of Bly's Martial Arts Academy in Jacksonville, Arkansas, one of the Promoters for the Natural State Classic and a strong contributer to the AKA, was nice enough to have his picture taken with Katie Carr, 2nd DAN. Mr. Bly had some generous comments to share with Katie about his observations of her as he's watched her competing within the American Karate Association. Katie was very thankful for the feedback, and appreciative of the time Mr. Bly took to speak with her!

09.23.08 Katie Carr, 2nd DAN, along with her Sensei - Mr. Ted Soliday, 9th DAN, and two students promoted at the Sapulpa Institute of Karate. Katie has been assisting as an instructor every Tuesday night at the Sapulpa Institute of Karate for the past couple years.

09.20.08 At the Midwest Martial Art Association's 2008 Midwest Rumble, Mr. Richard Osborn Jr., 7th DAN, generously allowed his picture to be taken with Katie Carr, 2nd DAN. Katie has been greatly appreciative of all of the support the MMASC has provided her, and especially grateful for the support and encouragement offered by Mr. Osborn!

08.30.08 Katie Carr, 2nd DAN, along with her Sensei - Grandmaster Soliday, and father Scott Carr, purple belt, put on a karate exhibition at the Bristow Car Show showing her national champion competition form, as well as a variety of self-defense techniques!

07.31.08 Mr. Ted Soliday, 9th DAN, promotes Katie Carr to 2nd DAN! Katie successfully passed all requirements and was awarded her second degree by her Sensei, Mr. Soliday as well as recognized on her certificate by Mr. Scott Collins, 7th DAN.

06.28.08 Katie Carr with Mr. Bill Briscoe, 10th DAN taken at the Wild Bunch Karate Association's annual Karate Camp event. Mr. Briscoe is one of the Founders of the Wild Bunch, and Katie was honored to have her picture taken with him!

05.17.08 Katie Carr with Ms. Janis Fraley, 10th DAN taken after Katie's efforts in sweeping her division with 1st Place in Forms, and 1st Place in Fighting at the Showdown karate tournament in Broken Arrow. This tournament featured male and female combined fighting competition up through the age of 17, and is one of Katie's favorites. Katie waded through the competition against male black belts to take 1st place.

05.03.08 Katie Carr with Mr. Jim Riggs, 5th DAN, just after Katie won 4th Place in Forms Competition and 1st Place in Fighting at the MMASC's 4-State Brawl karate tournament in Neosho, Missouri. Mr. Riggs was generous enough to compliment Katie's form, as well as share some encouragement. Katie faces challenges in the MMASC in the rankings for Forms so far this year, but presently leads the MMASC in Fighting for her division.

04.29.08 Katie Carr with Mr. Gary Boyd, 9th DAN after Mr. Boyd attended a UGKA belt testing night. Mr. Boyd is a Consulting Director for the United Goju Karate Association of which Katie is a Black Belt.

04.12.08 Katie Carr wins 1st Place in Forms Competition at the Oklahoma Nationals - the 35th Annual Pearl of the Plains tournament in Tulsa. Katie viewed this as a huge win as it was over the largest group of black belts she has competed with to date in any tournament!

04.05.08 Katie Carr with Jeri "Fists of Fury" Sitzes of the WCL Oklahoma Destroyers and the 4th ranked boxer in the World in Women's Boxing. Jeri came to see Katie compete and watched Katie win 1st Place in Fighting at the MMA Southern Conference's Martial Artist Open in Springfield, Missouri. Katie is also pictured with Mr. Richard Osborn, Jr., the 2007 President of the MMASC and heads up TigerTKD. Mr. Osborn, and his father have made Katie feel very welcome in the MMASC, inviting her to join their organization.

05.16.07 Katie Carr is featured on the front page of the Mannford Eagle newspaper for her entry in the school talent show. Katie demonstrated traditional Japanese Goju Ryu Karate forms as well as conducted a breaking demonstration for the school.
