Katie Carr, 2nd DAN, traveled to Louisville, KY for the American Karate Association Grand Nationals and Bluegrass Nationals Karate Tournament! A NASKA 5A rated event, this tournament is one of the largest and attracts some of the very best competitors from across the country! Katie Carr competed in a division featuring 14 Black Belts representing the best of the best, with many of them NASKA seeded in the tournament. While Katie did not place in Traditional Forms competition, she fought her way through the brackets in Fighting Competition to finish in 3rd Place!

Mr. John Sharkey, Jr - American Karate Association President, took some time out during the tournament to check on Katie and was kind enough to get his picture taken with her.

Katie Carr, 2nd DAN, pictured with Grandmaster Howard Fields upon the ceremony hosted by Grandmaster Gilkey and Grandmaster Soliday to formally recognize Mr. Fields as 10th DAN, at the Oklahoma Nationals Pearl of the Plains Karate Tournament in Tulsa, OK. Katie was proud to have the chance to visit with one of Oklahoma Karate's original pioneers and someone who brought so much to martial arts for decades.
Along with two others, Katie Carr, 2nd DAN, was also given a special honor by Grandmaster Gilkey.

Mr. Gilkey highlighted the accomplishments of Katie as an Oklahoma state champion, as an American Karate Association national champion, her years as a martial artist, and her opening her own karate school last year when she was only 15, the Mannford Institute of Karate. Mr. Gilkey specifically related seeing Katie start out in martial arts and her very first tournament, which was one of his tournaments, as a young white belt competitor. He also made specific mention of watching Katie over the years and how she has incorporated martial arts into her life.

At the 2008 DragonFest Karate Tournament, Katie was very honored to be asked to judge numerous divisions include the Junior Black Belt extreme forms, musicals, and later in the tournament she was asked to judge some of the Grand Champion divisions.

This tournament featured male and female combined fighting competition up through the age of 17, and is one of Katie's favorites. Katie faces challenges in the MMASC in the rankings for Forms so far this year, but presently leads the MMASC in Fighting for her division.

Katie Carr wins 1st Place in Forms Competition at the Oklahoma Nationals - the 35th Annual Pearl of the Plains tournament in Tulsa. Katie viewed this as a huge win as it was over the largest group of black belts she has competed with to date in any tournament!

Katie is also pictured with Mr. Richard Osborn, Jr., the 2007 President of the MMASC and heads up TigerTKD. Mr. Osborn, and his father have made Katie feel very welcome in the MMASC, inviting her to join their organization.
